vasectomy longevityHas anyone had their semen analyzed after a long period of times has passed? I had a vasectomy about 17 years ago, and since I am recently divorced, I was wondering if I should have a new test done. I still do not want to father children.
Re: vasectomy longevityShouldn't be a problem failure usually happens early after the vasectomy. As long as you had it checked after your vasectomy and it showed no sperm you should be all set.
Re: vasectomy longevityI never went back for follow-up tests, but my ex-wife never became pregnant after my vasectomy for over 16 years of a healthy sex life.
Re: vasectomy longevityGiven that information I would just get it checked to put your mind at ease. The situation you describe assumes that your ex wife had normal fertility during that time fame which we don't know. It is still highly unlikely that you have sperm in your semen. By the way as a side note now that you are dating or planning to after perhaps 20 years, you should be wearing a condom going forward to protect yourself.
Re: vasectomy longevityThank you for the information. I have an appointment this week with my family doctor to hopefully schedule a semen analysis. I will take you up on your advice about condoms as well.
