Pondering the question "To Do or Not To Do"

Post a new topicby JHizzle1 on Wed Nov 14, 2007 5:25 pm

Hi out there. I am strongly considering the "V" surgery in Atlanta. I am 45 with 2 kids, once Divorced, and now happily remarried. My wife and I have nooooooo interest in having any kids. Is this surgery generally covered by insurance? If not, what kind of cost am I looking at? I am not soo worried with pain and/or complications from the surgery. Does it matter very much which Urologist does the surgery? It seems pretty straight forward to me. Any comments or insight will be greatly appreciated.

With regards to the insurance question...you probably be best served by giving your insurance provider a call & ask them. For me personally, I have an HMO & as long as my primary care physician gave the referral for the procedure, it wasn't a problem. Just had mine done x 9 days ago. Without insurance, I've read a couple of places that it would probably run you in the $1500-$2000 range, but don't hold me to that.

Also, I think it does matter what urologist does the procedure...the more of these that the doc has done, the less of a chance you're going to have of running into a problem and if you do have a complication...do you really want a novice banging around down there trying to figure it out. When I went in for my consultation, that was one of the first questions I asked of my doctor...How many of these do you do a year?

Hope it helps...
