Mother with COPD

I do not see a lot of stories posted but hopefully that will increase. I am not sure where to turn. I am 38, my mom is 59. She smokes and was diagnosed with COPD & emphysema approx. 4 years ago. Her mother died of lung cancer and still refuses to quit smoking. She has an identical twin who quit smoking 3 weeks ago (has not been diagnosed with either disease) and they both live with their father! It's very difficult to get someone to quit smoking if they aren't willing to. There are medications that can be prescribed to help her quit. As for the oxygen..she will eventually have to give in to that. I am assuming because I have responded so late to your initial post she has already succumbed to that fate. All you can do is take care of her an keep her spirits up so that she doesn't get depressed. Keep her involved and active as possible. Hopefully she ahs gottten used to the oxygen by now.
