Motivation...

Post a new topicby sisu on Sat Aug 04, 2007 5:01 pm

What do you use to get yourself motivated? I've lost 40, but have reached a stand still for the past 6 months. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I also want to congratulate you on losing 40. That's a big accomplishment. I'm 44 years-old. I started out at 265 lbs and I'm down to 212. Even though my waistline continues to shrink, I haven't lost any weight in a couple of months. I am exercising every day, drinking slim fast at breakfast and lunch. At night I have a large dinner. I am hoping I'll come off the plateau soon. I would like to get down to 180.

Congratulations on losing 40! Pat yourself on the back for not gaining it back!
I try to concentrate on how great it feels to lose weight in general and then do a little more exercise to get your metabolism going. I also eat a little more one day and then a little less the next to jump start my metabolism.

i am morbidly obese and have had been on numerous diets and lost more pounds than i care to admit; only to gain them back..
motivation was my problem after reaching plateaus......i will tell you that one of the best things that was conveyed to me by a weight instructor was to 'jolt' my metabolism ... to kick start it again..

the body is a complex machine but it does get used to the same foods and diets..it gets bored too

i went off my diet for a weekend (only the weekend) not eating like an all out hog...but eating normal portions of my fav foods...pasta, a piece of cake, a small candy bar.

i was worried my weight would come back but i was depressed and unmotivated..i figured what the heck...i did it...and returned to the diet on monday to see what would happen...NO> i did not gain any weight back...but it did give my metabolism a boost and i started losing again...

this worked for me...as long as you go back to your dieting principles and convictions after the weekend...

i will also say that i found slim fast to stall my weight loss...so did my friends...
we all agreed the slim fast plan works initially for the very obese but that
as we progress in our weight loss, slim fast just doesnt cut it..
besides with those calories i would rather bulk up on an apple or orange ...gives you bulk, fiber, vitamins and keep change in the diet so it doesnt plateau as much

hello.. I have a question for you... How did you lose the 40?? thats awesome!!! im trying to lose weight right now also!!! do you have any eating disorders? do you exercise? to stay motivated change up your exercise routine.. like running one day.. dancing as long as you can for the next... doing an aerobics video or taking a class. it doesnt sound like it but once you get your butt out there and do it like going to a new class you feel really supported and really motivated... ive got the exercise part down i just need to stop binging!!!!! i somehow developed this binge eating problem where I start eating and I eat as much as I possibly can! I know its got to stop!!!

Hi, I admire your losing weight, I wish I had the will power you do...to have the shakes and then dinner....but you know what would work better is that you change the dinner to a shake and have a healthy large breakfast and a light lunch and have the shake at night. Because when you eat at night you go to bed and it stays with you all night long... and if you eat heavier in the morning . You do things all day and you burn some of what you ate. I wish I had the will power to do it myself I need alot of pushing and having someone next to me pushing me and stopping me from eating all the time..I wish you luck in losing the rest to get to you goal.....

hi I have lost 58 lbs since may 2nd of this year. I started out at 279 lbs and a few things continue to motivate me. My daughter is getting married soon. Also I really hated when my doctor who is very fit by the way told me two years ago that he felt i would need knee replacements in 10 years and i am still fairly young so i could end up with at least a couple in my lifetime. He also predicted I would be a diabetic also. The constant pain in my leg from two car wrecks in two years which left me with almost debilitating osteoarthritis. My Orthepedist told me four years ago I should probably lose weight to slow down the arthritis. Also i had become more noticeably short of breath with any exertion. And i was always tired and I snore so I could never seem to get enough sleep probably sleep apnea.I have always been overweight even from childhood and frankly I love to cook and eat out. I do still cheat at times but i always go right back on my diet afterwards. I have a different attitude this time I think. First of all God kept on this earth for a reason otherwise I would have died in one of those two car wrecks. second I love my daughter and i want to be around to see her babies. Three I have always loved fruit and vegetables but i just made what ever was convenient. Four I always thought there was no such thing as good diet foods but there really are if you know where to look. I have frequently varied my diet by looking through magazines and cookbooks out there such as eating well, light and tasty, cookinglight and the biggest loser cookbook. I try to make meals that challenge me to try new things and tastes i have not experienced.Of course not all meals are winners but i continue to try others. also the food networks ellie krieger has some great recipes. The most astonishing thing i found is I don't really crave the sugary stuff that much anymore. I still get a craving for a blizzard once in awhile but if i really want something i just eat it and then i am over it. I live with a man who is not dieting so we still have junk food in the house but i do not really crave it. My friends and family have been very encouraging and i am feeling a lot better. I was determined i would not hit the 300 lb mark. I still have a lot to lose but i did not gain this weight overnight and I do not expect to lose it overnight. In the past I have been an emotional or boredom related eater so i find other things to occupy me. I still love food and always will I know that will never change but I love me more. And like everyone else I know this will always be my personal battle within my self. I have to control the food and not let it control me. Last but not least I always without fail measure and calculate everything. Get a good digital food scale. I even weigh my fruit and vegetables. AND most important do not keep your old wardrobe around to fall back on. just sell it or give it to charity. I hope this longwinded story motivates someone out there to give weight loss a try. I do feel less tired and no more shortness of breath and less pain from my athhritis. I also love all the positive feedback. Lets face it everyone likes personal compliments. Most of all do it for you no one can make you do it till you really want to.
