Why a CT scan

Post a new topicby richard3009 on Wed Dec 09, 2009 9:23 am

I have had two operations in the past for kidney stones using retrograde uretero
scopy followed by stenting. Today I went to see my consultant for the 6 monthly ultrasound results, these showed 2 stones present, one 3mm and one 6mm in left and right kidney respectively.
He has refered me for a CT scan with a view to using ESWL, why is the CT scan performed why not go straight for ESWL.

If ESWL is unsuccessful would retrograde uretoscopy be performed as a matter of course on the 6mm stone.
