13mm kidney stone.Hi. My story started around 6-7 years ago, when I started gettine reoccuring urine infections. I was eventually referred to a specialist, who carried out various tests and treatments. Eventually, only last year, after a ct scan, he discovered that I have kidney stones A large 13mm one in my right kidney, and several smaller ones in my right. Also they discovered I have kidney cysts.
Anyway, the specialist decided that this was the cause of my U.T.I.'s and arranged for me to have lithotrypsy on the larger stone. Two painful sessions later, and a kidney infection later, the consultant informed me that the lithotrypsy had failed to dissolve the stone, and that I would now need a Urethoscopy with stone removal. I had this done last Tuesday, and when I Saw the consultants understudy the next day, she told me that they had been unable to locate the stone, and that it was too deep inside to access. she also said that the only way to remove the stone would be to take the kidney out!!. She said that the stone should not be causing any symptoms, and that I would be seen again in 3 months!!. Obviously I was not happy about this. The stone not causing symptoms?? why the UTI's and pain then?. Anyway two days later, I woke up with the worst pain I have ever had in my life. giving birth to 3 large babies was easy compared to this. The pain was in my right side, and I was literally rolling around on the floor with it. My husband got my GP to come out, and he gave me an injection and prescribed antibiotics. He was also not happy with what the hospital had said, and was going to ring them. The pain settled eventually and that afternoon I received a phonecall from the hospital with an appointment for next week. since then, I am still getting pain, but the pain is also on my right side. Urine is very dark, even though I am drinking pints of water. I can only presume that this is a kidney infection, as the stone on the left side is too big to pass? My concerns are, surely a stone of this size needs removing, it must cause damage eventually? and also if it shouldn't be causing any symptoms, maybe they need to look at the stones on the right side, as something is causing me pain and infections!! I feel drained of energy with all this, and also need to be normal again!!! Thanks for reading. x
