Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Sep 11, 2002 11:21 pm

Hello...doc. I'm a homosexual male and my worry is that when my partner began to penetrate me the condom broken. I know that in that instant he did'nt eyaculate but before that I could notice somekind of scarce fluid on the tip of his penis and I am worried because the condom broken inside of my anal area. After that very moment I stop the relation inmediately. What its the possibility of becoming infected in this particular situation??

This type of question has been answered frequently in the forum. If my answer is not clear to you, read through to see if your concerns are addressed.
The chance of infection from a single episode of anal intercourse with a positive person, with ejaculation, is about 1-3/1000. Very low. With no ejaculation, but pre cum, it's lower. Now, if you told me that within 14 days of this you experienced symptoms typical of acute retroviral syndrome (ars), such as fever, rash, swollen glands (basically like the flu), then I'd say I'm worried. I'd recommend both an elisa and a viral load right now. If you didn't have that complex of symptoms (and note that I didn't include diarrhea, stuffy nose, depression, fatigue, pain in your legs or back--- because they are not typical of ars), then get an elisa at 6 weeks. If it's negative, you're negative.
